ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe the methodology used in the study, but first we give a brief overview of what we see as current thinking regarding students’ attitudes to education and their learning. Rather than providing a thorough reprise of studies that are well documented elsewhere, we focus on key issues that pertain to our later findings and provide some pointers for exploring issues in greater depth beyond this study. In later chapters we expand on many of these topics in the context of our own findings.
