ABSTRACT

Key differences between the education systems in the UK and USA influenced the teachers’ responses in our study. In this chapter, we provide a brief overview of each system as it affected the project – mostly so that you can read up on any system that is unfamiliar to you – and we provide salient information about the four institutions in the study. It is important to recall that the UK’s four countries – England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales – exercise varying degrees of autonomy when it comes to education policy and practice. Since our study involved two English universities, you will note a slant towards that context.
