ABSTRACT

The environment for young children in an early years setting includes both indoors and out. It also involves the local environment as a third classroom outside as this can be a ‘teacher’ in its own right and provide experiences which then free up practitioners to observe children in depth and spend quality time with them teaching and learning. Both indoors and outdoors should provide a varied range of open-ended opportunities which enrich and enliven children’s lives as they interact, play and learn.
