ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4, there are initial descriptions of the underpinning life history methodology employed in much of the research represented herein. Life history interviews are a perfect vehicle for exploring the complexity of people’s personal narratives. As explained in Chapter 4, the collection and collaboration at the heart of life history interviews stressed the life story narration as a starting point. We showed how subsequently a ‘progressive focussing’ takes place and a grounded conversation begins to take over, which elicits information about the historical context and social location.
