ABSTRACT
I sat there feeling hot and uncomfortable. There was a strong sense of anticipation as everyone sat there waiting anxiously for the kyai (Islamic scholar) of a famous pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in Indonesia to arrive. I’d never met any kyai in my life and I wondered what the fuss was about.
