ABSTRACT

A Variety of Science Teaching Approaches Th e focus of this chapter is on a trio of contrasting approaches to science teaching. None of these approaches requires the teacher to follow a strict instructional sequence. Instead each represents an underlying philosophy about science and learning. It is from these philosophies that the three teaching models emerged. We present these three models sequentially, but that does not mean that the oldest model has been completely replaced by it successors. Th e truth is that all three approaches are still used to teach science. An eff ective classroom teacher should recognize the strengths and limitations of each model.
