ABSTRACT

Remarriage offers couples the promise of a second chance at love and connection, often following the loss of a previous relationship through death or divorce . Couples are seldom prepared for the unique challenges and opportunities faced in forming a marriage that commonly includes one and sometimes two existing families . For some partners, the earned wisdom of past relationships and the hope for a revived vision of a new family are realized in their remarriage . For others, these hopes fail to materialize amid the complexity of competing interests and emotional loyalties that can overwhelm the resources most needed in a new developing family .
