ABSTRACT
Have you listened to the radio recently? A recent song by Lady Gaga makes reference to poker faces and how we try to read them. Now we doubt that Lady Gaga was singing about classroom nonverbal communication, although no doubt all of us have at some time or other pulled a classroom poker face, but the lines of this song remind us of the prevalence and pertinence of nonverbal communication in the youth cultures of today. Almost all pop songs make some reference to nonverbal communication, be it ‘body talk’ (an eighties classic!) or ‘lying eyes’, ‘smiling eyes’ and even ‘hungry eyes’.
