ABSTRACT

Daily routines are an important part of life within any Early Years setting. These daily occurrences provide a range of learning opportunities. They provide ‘real-life’, meaningful and purposeful contexts to explore problem solving, number, calculation, shape and pattern. By taking time to tune in to how children operate at these keys times of the day and sensitively leading learning forwards through modelling and open-ended questions, practitioners can gain an all-round knowledge of where children are at mathematically whilst helping them recognise the wonderful world of maths that surrounds them.
