ABSTRACT

Construction design managers will spend a lot of time questioning the information provided by architects, engineers and specialist designers/suppliers/sub-contractors. This applies to projects that are managed using 2D information as well as those using a single virtual model; the difference being in how and when the information is reviewed and coordinated. And once discrepancies and errors have been found, it is important that the construction design manager can communicate on a number of levels and with a wide variety of participants. Pre-construction and construction design managers will be charged with coordinating information from many different sources, and regardless of the information communication technologies (ICTs) employed it will be necessary to interface with others to discuss the design and its realisation. This not only calls for effective processes and tools, but also the ability to communicate on and across many different levels and interfaces.
