C ostestl Is a small and remote town in the foothills of the Carpathians about 60 miles (96km) northw es t of the Romani a n capital, Bucharest. On the eve ning of Good Friday In 1930 the Orthodo x church there was destroyed by a fire In which 140 worshippers died a nd many more were s e riously Injured.
