ABSTRACT

Sharon McGowan: Are there any directors whose fiction work you admire and whose work influenced the way you approached your first picture?

Deepa Mehta: Satyajit Ray. He's the greatest humanist filmmaker that I've ever known. His work is simple, very complex yet uncomplicated. That is the beauty of it. I do not wish to emulate it, but I wish at some point I could reach his vision on some level.
