ABSTRACT

Every year, Sydney celebrates its Carnivale. For two weeks, the city projects its diverse multicultural faces to itself and the world (of actual and potential tourists). A quick glance at the Carnivale program clearly reveals the extent of this diversity. With its diversity in ethnic origins, in types of activity (from an International Food and Wine Fair where you can ‘eat your way around the world’ to multilingual computer games at the Powerhouse Museum), the Carnivale is a festival in which Sydneysiders and visitors are treated to some of the best that ‘multiculturalism can offer’.
