ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the relationship between certain modes of ecological thinking and White governmental nationalism as they have emerged in Australia. For many people, at least until recently, the idea of a relationship between ecological thinking, racism and nationalism could appear as absurd. The initial rise of ecological struggles has been primarily experienced within left and liberal popular culture as a specifically ‘radical left’ phenomenon and, as such, ecologists are perceived to be immune from a thought uncritically associated with the radical right.
