ABSTRACT
In contrast to the first collection of Twentieth Century Thinkers in Adult Education Oarvis, 1987) this second collection includes attention to the contribution of women. In contrast to the rest of the second collection, however, in which, as before, we find a single 'great male' thinker, such as Paulo Freire or Robert Peers, separately celebrated in each paper, in this paper (with the exception of Pat Cross) aH the females are gathered together. Where are the single, prominent 'great female' thinkers? Do they not exist? Are female theorists so few and so minor that they can readily be crammed together?
