ABSTRACT

While the three main streets appear similar, they are quite different due to topography, orientation and connection to an amenity. The topography of the area upon which the New Town was built is a long, east-west ridge of a hill. Craig placed George Street along this ridge from which the topography slopes down to the North Loch and to a new park to the north. Princes Street and Queen Street are one-sided streets so that one side of the street is built up while the other side is park which slopes away from the street.
