ABSTRACT

Located at the foot of the Galata Bridge that connects the Stamboul and Galata districts and alongside the Golden Horn that is lined with disembarking passenger ferries and fishmonger boats, the Yeni Cami complex is a hub of activity in Istanbul. Demarcated by a market building, the mosque and mausoleum, the interior market is predominantly spice vendors while the outdoor market hosts a range of vendors selling, among other things: vegetables, live animals and local specialties such as medicinal leeches.
