ABSTRACT

Place Charles-de-Gaulle, more commonly known among Parisians by its original name of Place de l’Etoile, with the Arc de Triomphe at its center, is more of an immense traffic circle rather than a public gathering space. Every day it collects and redistributes several thousand automobiles, buses and trucks to and from twelve major avenues and all the while symbolizes Paris’ urban form and reinforces the city’s international image.
