ABSTRACT
Designed by Willard Martin and J. Douglas Macy, Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square has been a key component in revitalizing Portland’s downtown and a part of the city’s overall progressive urban design and transportation initiatives. Today, the square and the city have become role models for financially viable, yet environmental and socially progressive initiatives that promote urban infrastructure, environmental awareness, mass transportation and urban living while controlling sprawl.
