ABSTRACT
Of the Spanish colonial plazes de armas or military parade grounds included in this collection, Santiago’s Plaza de Armas is the most parklike and remains an integral component in the public life of the city. While Mexico City’s Zócalo is an open, hardscaped plaza and Buenos Aires Plaza de Mayo is landscaped, both remain more political squares rather involved in the day to day life of the city.
