ABSTRACT
While no single profession claims child abuse and neglect as its sole field of practice, social work assumes the dominant role as its victim's protector. In this capacity, social workers have the legal responsibility and obligation to investigate and verify reports of maltreatment. As cases are confirmed, child protective services must develop and implement plans for intervention and treatment (Schene, 1996).
