ABSTRACT

This chapter examines North Korean efforts to develop nuclear weapons and means for their delivery, as well as the impact of these military programs on the overall strategic situation in Northeast Asia. Since complete data on nuclear developments in North Korea are not available, this analysis relies on several sources: Russian and foreign news reports; eyewitnesses; estimates provided by Russian diplomats, military experts, and technical specialists; Russian archival materials; conversations with North Korean officials; and the author's own analysis of events.
