ABSTRACT

Alignment of Charges. The alignment of ferromagnetic charges is also controlled by the crystalline structure of the specific metal. Because iron crystals are arranged in cubes, the magnetic charge tends to align with the edges of these cubes; however, these crystals are randomly arrayed within a given block of iron. It is for this reason that magnets are usually made of iron alloys, in which the crystals have been rolled or annealed in order to line up in nearly the same direction.
