ABSTRACT

Gold in the Cracks We often fear singing wrongly, or worry about our voice containing flaws or imperfections. Singing 'who we are' is about allowing authentic and human qualities of sound to come through and accepting what is actually there in the voice at the moment, regardless of what 'ought' to be there conventionally, according to gender. As we learn to listen to ourselves in a new way, following the sound, allowing it out, we will gradually be able to discern what we can develop as true and rich in our own voice, without imitation, realising that there is gold to be mined in the 'cracks'.
