ABSTRACT

In this chapter we shall be looking at dynamic control – how to increase and decrease volume – and at the concept of muscular support or Voicebody connection'. It is a favourite question of mine in workshops to ask 'how do we get louder?' The answers are sometimes interesting and usually include 'making more space', 'lowering my larynx', 'more blade' and (nearly always) 'more breath'. It is rare for anyone to mention increased work in the vocal folds.
