Measurement Bias book
This chapter de‹nes the concept of measurement bias, and then explores some of the implications of this de‹nition and its variations. Broadly speaking, measurement bias concerns systematic inaccuracy in measurement. It is “systematic” in the sense of being replicable, and not simply attributable to the randomness or uncertainty inherent in any measurement process. Given that the measurement models in Chapter 2 represent the systematic components in measurement, we will de‹ne measurement bias within the measurement model itself. Our de‹nition of bias will be model-based but will be general enough to apply to all of the models reviewed in Chapter 2 and others as well.
