ABSTRACT

We live in a time when humanity has developed the capacity to destroy itself and most of the other species with which we share the planet. Warfare is perpetual. The gap between the rich and the poor widens. Mothers and children around the world live in poverty and violence. Rivers and streams, the sea and the dry land, and the air we breathe are being poisoned and polluted. Forests are being destroyed. The end result of the course we are on will be a world radically less beautiful, radically less diverse, and radically less full of life than it is now. The moral challenge of our time is whether human beings can find ways to live in greater harmony with each other and all beings in the web of life. Goddess religion offers a mythos and an ethos that inspire us to hope that we can create a different world.
