ABSTRACT
In my account of the baptism above, I described an incident when an orisha spirit was said to have "manifested on" a converted in the mourning room. This manifestation indicated that this particular individual was, in some way, associated with Orisha Work; Teacher Agnes said as much. I have already indicated that a segment of the Spiritual Baptist population did indeed participate in orisha ceremonies. In the following chapters I will describe the beliefs and rites of Orisha Work in Trinidad. In this chapter I will present a general introduction to the religion.
