ABSTRACT

Qrisha Work is a multifaceted religion. This is evident from the various items which are to be found in a typical orisha compound. Even though no two compounds may be exactly alike, I have suggested that devotees make a distinction between two main types of practices, grouped under the categories of north and south respectively. Since the compound is where the actual worship occurs, this factor, that is, the north/south distinction, has a bearing on its physical structure and layout. In this chapter I will describe the beliefs of Orisha Work in Trinidad, noting those variations as I found them.
