ABSTRACT

There is another, broad, nontechnical defense of reductionist approaches that attacks claims to the irreducibility of the rehgious.

Although one can relate this attack on antireductionism to the more technical analyses, it is possible to accept or reject this defense of reductionism without knowing the specialized literature. John Fenton will be used to illustrate this general approach since Eliade and his followers are clearly a target of his criticism.
