ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the reasoning behind the selection of the research methodology used to conduct this research along with a description of how the data were collected. Simon's research indicates that excellent senior managers utilize belief, boundary, diagnostic and interactive control systems. Guba and Lincoln support the view of qualitative research and identify five axioms as distinguishing characteristics. The primary method for collecting data was through the use of structured, open-ended interviews. Additional documentation provided by the Director of Human Resources consisted of the sample group's focal rankings. Qualitative research relies on data analysis as a method for producing results through a process of analysis, interpretation and presentation of results.
