ABSTRACT

The success of development and redevelopment projects is determined by many factors-the vagaries of political will, the economics of place, and community opinion, amongst a host of other things. For many business improvement districts (BIDs) getting involved in these projects for the first time is a daunting undertaking. There are aspects of projects in which staff simply lack experience, and, consequently, they may mistakenly believe that hiring design and planning consultants, for example, will automatically solve their problems. This is not necessarily the case. The success of any project depends on the selection of the right consultant for the right job.
