ABSTRACT
Martha was diagnosed as HIV positive nine years before she began regularly attending the clinic. She had been tested anonymously and had not shared her diagnosis with anyone. Martha had been denying her illness for a long time. She said, "It's not a problem. Sometimes I think about telling someone, but not now. No one needs to know yet." Denial enables Martha to forget her illness.
