Inclusion in Schools in Latin America and the Caribbean: The Case of Children of Haitian Descent in the Dominican Republic

Latin America is said to be the most unequal region in the world. Persistent poverty and inequality in the distribution of wealth have prevented the development of societies with greater integration. Inequality of educational opportunities based on the socioeconomic level of students is one of the most serious characteristics of the region, so it could be concluded that education in general has not been able to break the vicious circle of poverty and social inequality (Blanco, 2005).
