ABSTRACT

As one might imagine, members of San Jose’s transvestite community have an elevated number of sexual contacts as a result of their line of work. When we asked them in 1990 how many sexual partners they had had during their lives (see Table 8.1), the average response was 9,371 and, for the prior five-year period only, the response was 4,835.4. During the previous twelve months the average number of partners was 830.4, or 15.9 per week. Finally, for the previous thirty days, respondents indicated that they had had (on average) 44.8 partners, or 11.2 per week. These figures have not changed significantly over the past seven years.
