ABSTRACT

Some of the most important changes since the mid-1980s emerged from critiques of feminisms associated with the “new” feminist movement. Women of color have been influential in voicing these critiques and creating more inclusive feminisms. The perspectives of women of color are important for clarifying the complexities and intersections of women’s social identities that are influenced by gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, nationality, and class. Women of color have been attentive to these interdependent aspects of identity and have made rich contributions to feminist theory and psychotherapy.
