ABSTRACT

Ella Fitzgerald’s voice isn’t what it was when she was forty years old, that’s obvious, but it’s not the point. The point is that she has all this great wisdom and knowledge about performance, and that comes across even though she can’t sing as high or as low as she did. I think that people who say Ella or Frank Sinatra should hang it up are totally foolish and irresponsible because we still have a lot to learn from the vantage point age and experience have brought them. I’d rather hear Ella Fitzgerald not at her peak than ten other singers at their peak.
