ABSTRACT
The second objective of this chapter is to develop a series of theoretical arguments about the relevance of a political sociology of education to comprehend, understand, and critique, in a macro, historical and structural perspective, educa· tional policy and planning. A particular focus of the critique is the notion of educa· tional policy based on instrumental rationalization.
