ABSTRACT
Figure 4.1 provides a visual display of the overall process of how to conduct case studies and other forms of qualitative research. Note that arrows move between and across components, in both directions, so that theory informs research practice and research, in turn, informs theory; data collection and analysis inform interpretation, and interpretations, in turn, may warrant further data collection; and the writing up of research (another form of analysis and interpretation, as well as representation) and presentation of results to others may also feed back into subsequent refinement of data analysis, interpretations, conclusions, and future research. Invisible chains of reasoning or narrative should tie what appear to be
separate components of the research enterprise into a cohesive and coherent whole.
