ABSTRACT

Machomoncobe (Sonora, Mexico) A coastal site of the Huatabampo Culture, occupied c. 17 B.C.—A.D. 1004, near the modern city of Huatabampo in southern Sonora, on the coastal plain about seven kilome ters from the Gulf of California. The subsistence base at the site included a mixture of agricultural plants (maize and beans), wild terrestrial foods, and marine resources. The sites occupants built jacals (houses of perishable materials) along the river. They made a redware pottery, ceramic beads, and female ceramic figurines with “tat tooed” faces.
