ABSTRACT

Abaj Takalik (Retalhuleu, Guatemala) Noted for its large sculptural corpus in three or more dif­ ferent art styles, possibly including Olmec, Abaj Takalik is a multi-component site consisting of about seventy struc­ tures aligned on nine north-south oriented plazas at an elevation of 600 meters. It is situated within the agricul­ turally rich upper piedmont of the Guatemala Pacific Slope, on an ancient route between the Guatemala High­ lands and the Pacific Coast.
