ABSTRACT
Writing a letter as an active assessment strategy provides an opportunity for learners to communicate their ideas in the form of a letter of complaint or for providing information. It is a means of creating a purpose and a context for learners to communicate their ideas. The letter can be to a person (real or imaginary), a character, an animate object or an organisation.
