ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter is about how we could house ourselves, and live, in a more sustainable way. The context is an urban one, which draws on the ideas of neo-traditional development, or ideas known as 'New Urbanism'. But this chapter goes a step further than New Urbanism's ideas by introducing a new context for urban and suburban housing development - a sustainable urban matrix (SUM) model.
