ABSTRACT
I have already said that I will be paying less attention to the actors than to the audience. Now – before analysing the first stages of the reaction – I want to say something about the typical stage and set on which the Mods and Rockers dramas took place. Of course, such distinctions between ‘audience’, ‘actor’ and ‘stage’ are partly artificial because the dramatalurgical analogy on which they are based is only an analogy. As the Mods and Rockers drama ran its course, the whole script changed and the reaction of each successive audience altered the nature of the stage. Certain things remained constant, though, and it is worth noting some of the more distinctive characteristics of the setting in so far as they affected the actions that took place.
