ABSTRACT

Before going on to the appendices, which will shed further light on some of the subjects discussed in the initial six chapters, it will be helpful to sum up a few of the main points of this work. Initially, Persian cultural influence from the beginning of the Achaemenian Empire (550 B.C.) was traced. This influence covered the geographical area which encompassed Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, the Caucasus, Greece, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Sin Jiang, Pakistan and North India. Facts about Persian music, past and present, were divulged, explaining that what is practiced in Iran today was transmitted through Qājār times by master ‘Ali Akbar Farāhāni, his sons Mirzā ‘Abdollāh and Hosein Qoli, Darvish Khan and others down to Dr. Safvat, Mahmud Karimi and their students, including many of the second generation masters trained at the Center for Preservation and Propagation of Iranian Music.
