ABSTRACT

The planning process is a general concept, and thus quite abstract, but concretises as a ‘planning operation’ in each case we plan. Although we could just ‘start planning’, it is a very good idea to establish the initial phase of the planning operation as an overview of key organisational issues, such as the formal definition of the planning problem, the identification of the tasks to carry out – together with their timing and dependencies – and an outline of the planning team. This is what we will consider in this chapter.
