ABSTRACT

In this chapter we shall show how this is so. We will also show how capitalism itself suggests the development of socialisation and objectification beyond their current forms. Furthermore, we will demonstrate that though this potential is already expressed in the workings of digital media, nonetheless they are currently deployed largely against further socialisation and to the detriment of objectification. Our presentation will require reconsideration of influential concepts such as ‘network society’ (Castells 2009) and ‘networked journalism’ (Beckett 2010). By such means we hope to move the debate about objectivity out of its analogue phase and into the digital age.
