ABSTRACT

Not all games are simulations, and games that are not simulations can be used in a class. A teacher might use a quiz game to motivate students to review, for example, but the quiz game is not in any sense a simulation of the past. Since this book is fundamentally concerned with the unique offerings of simulation games, it will be helpful to survey in this brief chapter the criteria that make some history-themed games appropriate for use as simulations and others not.
