ABSTRACT

In Chapters 3 and 4, we reviewed the written CF research that has been conducted in language learning and composition contexts and, in doing so, pointed to (1) conclusions that can be drawn from the findings of some studies, (2) shortcomings with the design and execution of some studies that may, to some extent, have compromised the robustness of their findings, and (3) areas in which further research needs to be carried out so that firmer conclusions can be reached. In this chapter, we identify areas that we believe should be investigated, starting with those related to the role of written CF in the language learning context and moving on to consider those related to the composition or writing context. As far as possible, we have grouped our recommendations in these two sections under the same or similar subsections so that readers can make comparisons when desired.
