ABSTRACT

For cross-curricular links choose your current topic as the subject for an acrostic, e.g. Evacuation to link with study of World War 2 or Diwali, Christmas etc. to link with study of festivals.

If you are going to write an acrostic, do some examples as a whole-class activity first and demonstrate the gathering of ideas before writing each line. Consider what makes a holiday, for example resting, lying in bed late, sunny days, ice cream and lollies, taking it easy etc. Then try to include some of the things you want to say in the acrostic:

Happiness is our hope On our holidays. Lying in bed all day, Idling, lazing, dreaming Dozing . . . All the time in the world . . . Yes!
